Ihram — The First Step of Umrah
Ihram is where your Umrah truly begins.
It is not just a dress code.
It is a state of purity, intention, and focus on your worship.
From this moment, you leave behind distractions and prepare yourself for a journey that is deeply spiritual and meaningful.
When understood correctly, Ihram removes confusion and allows you to begin your Umrah with confidence and peace of mind.
- Perform ghusl (ritual bath) before wearing Ihram
- Men wear two unstitched cloths, women wear modest clothing
- Make the intention for Umrah at the Miqat
- Recite the Talbiyah: Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk.....
Tawaf — The Heart of Umrah
Tawaf is where your connection with Allah becomes deeply personal.
It is not just walking around the Kaaba.
It is an act of devotion, remembrance, and complete focus on worship.
With every step, you draw closer spiritually—leaving behind distractions and immersing yourself in dhikr and dua. The movement is simple, but the meaning is profound.
- Begin at the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad), pointing or touching it if possible
- Keep the Kaaba on your left side throughout
- Complete seven full circuits around the Kaaba
- Engage in dua and remembrance during each round
- Pray two rak’ahs at Maqam Ibrahim after completing Tawaf
Sa’i — Walking Between Safa & Marwa
Sa’i reflects a powerful moment of faith and reliance on Allah.
It is not just walking between two hills.
It is a reminder of patience, struggle, and complete trust in Allah’s plan.
As you walk between Safa and Marwa, you follow the footsteps of Hajar, who searched for water for her son with unwavering faith. Her effort was honored by Allah, making Sa’i a lasting part of Umrah.
- Start at Mount Safa, facing the Kaaba
- Walk to Mount Marwa (one lap)
- Complete seven laps (ending at Marwa)
- Men should jog in the green-lit section
Halq / Taqsir — Shaving OR Trimming Hair
Halq or Taqsir marks the final step of your sacred journey.
It is not just cutting the hair.
It is a symbol of humility, renewal, and complete submission to Allah.
By removing your hair, you leave behind your previous state and emerge spiritually refreshed—having completed your Umrah with sincerity and devotion. It reflects letting go of worldly attachment and embracing a state of purity.
- Men: Shave the head completely (Halq) – highly recommended
- Men: Or trim hair evenly from all sides (Taqsir)
- Women: Trim about a fingertip’s length
- Exit the state of Ihram after completing this step
- Offer gratitude and make dua upon completion of Umrah
